I received an email from this website and decided to come here. I'm glad to finally see the new UI (I remember there were tests several years ago) and let's hope for the best for this website.

Hello Eltu, and everyone! I just watched the trailer, not knowing about it until a few days ago...
...and I googled "Avatar forums", finding TOS at the top. :O I'm happy to see it back.

Edit: Is Avatar Forums still down? I could have sworn it was TOS that was down for a long time, and AF that survived.

Great to hear from you, it's been a while - hope you are doing well! As for ToS and AF, indeed it was the other way around - Avatar-Forums have been down since 2017 (I believe), whereas ToS definitely has been up this entire time :)

Upgraded to a hosting plan with about 4 times the capacity, should help making sure things keep going smoothly :)

A few updates today:
  • Attachments now automatically strip EXIF data when uploaded, for privacy reasons.
  • Tree of Souls now uses local fonts rather than relying on Google web fonts. This improves performance and reduces reliance on third-party services, and is also compatible with a wider range of devices. This does mean that text may appear in different fonts depending on what device you visit it on, but the stack is curated so that it will try to pick similar looking fonts. If you spot any issues with font sizes, weights or anything along those lines, feel free to let me know!
  • Also removed Google-hosted jquery (now locally hosted) and Google Maps integration (replaced with OpenStreetMap). With these changes, Tree of Souls now uses no Google services.

Do feel free to double-check that the clearing of EXIF data actually works! :D

On an unrelated note, spam has been picking up a bit lately, if it keeps up I might switch to manual account approval. I've done that on some other forums and it generally works well, with the only downside being that new accounts could take a few hours to be approved. Usually a fair tradeoff though :)
