Don't know if anyone'd know most of this list, but (in no particular order:(

Most favorite of all: James Newton Howard

Alan Silvestri (he's starting to get repetitive, but I still like him)

Hans Zimmer (absolutely HATE him as a theme writer since his work is incredibly recycled or outright plagiarized from himself, but as a composer, I love him)

James Horner (Feel the same hatred for him as I do Zimmer, only multiplied by 3... but as a composer, I love him; his older work is overall much better)

Alexandre Desplat

John Powell

Brian Tyler

John Williams (His music is completely recognizable in all settings from constant use of the same orchestral techniques and instruments, which makes me much less respecting of his work, and his themes are starting to get VERY recycled, but as a composer, I love him)

Thomas Newman (Again, very recognizable, but it seems like no matter how many times he uses the same technique, it works as a theme)

Danny Elfman (Only love his themes; his composing is so-so to me, and his techniques are very tiresome after hearing them a million times)

John Debney

Alan Menken

Elmer Bernstein

Klaus Badelt (Very recognizable Media Ventures offspring, but nevertheless a very excellent theme writer)

Johann Sebastian Bach (Too musically subdued IMO, but the greatest master of counterpoint that has ever lived)

Frédéric Chopin

Franz Liszt

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (Copied himself a bit, but nevertheless excellent)

George Gershwin

Benjamin Britten

Aaron Copland

...and probably the only two contemporary artists I like: Kenny G and Yiànnis Hrysomàllis (Yanni).

i'm only listing individuals, not bands. if i included bands it would just be a list of metal bands and i doubt some of you want to read through that.

-Alicia Keys
-BB King
-Bob Marley
-Dr. Dre
-Eminem
-Ice Cube
-James Horner (simply because he composed the greatest movie score ever)
-Jimi Hendrix
-Norah Jones
-Paul Collier
-Roger Troutman
-Snoop Dogg (new songs suck)
-Talib Kweli
-The Game

Numbers 1 and 2 for sure:

-The Who (plus a lot of Pete Townshend's solo work)
-Syd Barrett (my answer to the question "Which one's Pink?")

And then in alphabetical order:
-Copland, Aaron
-Hawkwind
-Joy Division
-MC5
-Neutral Milk Hotel
-Pink Floyd
-and a whole bunch of others

I used to have a radio show on my college's station where I'd play a lot of R&B-influenced British bands, '60s garage and psychedelic rock, very early punk, and whatever current releases that seemed to fit in. Sometimes some (northern) soul well. It was great fun and I loved spinning that music, but it's been awhile since I did that. These days I find myself listening to a lot of classical music and soundtracks.

bone thugs n harmony would probably be bigger, with more albums, if one of them didn't threaten his neighbour with an ak47 and didn't go to jail

Maybe but I don't think it would have mattered. Their catelog is big and they sold 50 million records world wide, so they're pretty big.

Yea, I know :xD: The list was bigger in 2006, but it stretched through the time since many artists switched to commercial bull***t. :shoop: And yeah, Skrillex is droppin' good tracks lately, so is Deadmau5... can't wait for his next gig.

I forgot to mention Dan Stone, Maor Levi, Armin van Buuren (Armin before 2008) and Above & Beyond (before 2009).:party:
